Meet the Changemakers
Come along for an afternoon of climate-themed conversation and family fun to celebrate Earth Day.
For this edition of Meet the Changemakers, we’ll be joined by the likes of GM Clean Cities, In Our Nature and Manchester Urban Diggers. Drop in between 12pm and 4pm to discover new and different ideas and get involved in free creative workshops and activities for all ages.
Manchester Museum’s Top Floor is a space for learning, connecting, and inspiring change, and Meet the Changemakers is our quarterly event that gives you the chance to meet the communities, charities, activists, and artists shaping a more sustainable and fair future for Manchester.
This is what we’ve got planned for the event:
12-3pm: Earth Day Mobiles with artist Lydia Meiying
Join artist Lydia Meiying to make your own Earth Day hanging mobile using recycled materials and decorate it with all the things you care and love about our shared Earth.
12-3pm in Living Worlds Gallery: Imagining the future with Ergon Theatre
Visit a pop-up exhibition created with students, imagining what the museum’s Living Worlds gallery will look like in the 2060s, then have a go at creating your own vision of the world 50 years from now! Ergon Theatre is one of the UK’s leading climate theatre companies, creating experiences, workshops and resources to entertain, educate and empower people about the climate crisis.
‘How bad are bananas?’ with University of Manchester Environmental Sustainability Team
So just how bad are bananas? Have a go at our carbon footprinting game to test your knowledge!
From bananas to strawberries, from chicken to beef, and from flying to taking the train, making better decisions for the planet can be simple once you know how. Come and speak to the Environmental Sustainability Team about how you can eat, travel, learn, work and live more sustainably by making some small lifestyle changes, which can make a big impact.
My Solar Punk Garden with Manchester Urban Diggers
Join MUD in creating your own mini solar punk garden. MUD designs and builds places for people to grow food in the city, creating spaces with the community for people to come together and make new friends, increase biodiversity, and help us feel happier and healthier. Using your imagination, design a mini future garden of your own to grow food, make homes for bugs and beautiful flowers.
We’ll also have activities and information from:
- Clean Cities – Greater Manchester has some of the most polluted air in the country, but there are lots of ways we can clean it up. Find out about some of the solutions and ask your Mayoral candidates to commit to action. Join our campaign to change things for the better.
- In Our Nature and the Manchester Climate Change Agency – supporting people across Manchester to turn ideas into action, reduce carbon emissions, improve their health, save money, and learn new skills.
- Global Shapers – Global Shapers is a community of young people driving positive change in communities across the world. Meet the Manchester team and take part in their Climate Conversations project, which asks the people of Manchester to share their thoughts on the climate action they want to see in Manchester.
