South Asia Gallery wins at Manchester Culture Awards
Partnership with Grange School also shortlisted
Manchester Museum’s South Asia Gallery this week picked up the prize for Best Exhibition at the Manchester Culture Awards 2023.
Our partnership with the Grange School Manchester was also shortlisted in the Promotion of Culture and Education category but just missed out on the award, which was picked up by our friends at Community Arts North West and Curious Minds.
“The award is recognition of the sheer dedication and passion for the South Asia Gallery of all those who’ve been involved in its five-year co-curation journey,” said Nusrat Ahmed, Lead Curator for the South Asia Gallery.
Created in partnership with the British Museum, the South Asia Gallery is the first permanent gallery in the UK to celebrate the experiences and contribution of the South Asian diaspora. It displays world-class material from the British Museum alongside the best of South Asian collections in Manchester.
This multilingual gallery has been designed and built with the South Asia Gallery Collective, an inspiring group of community leaders, educators, artists, historians, journalists, scientists, musicians, students and others from the South Asian diaspora with a unique spirit of collaboration and co-production.
