From fun events and Top Floor takeovers to road closures and planting inspired by our botany collections, we’ve already collaborated on a whole lot with Ardwick Climate Action. But we’re just getting started…
At the heart of the Museum’s mission is to build a more sustainable world and we’re working closely with this group of passionate local residents to do this on our own doorstep.
Ardwick Climate Action is one of the key partners in our Top Floor environmental action and social justice hub and our collaboration is motivated by a shared sense of loss and anger about decreasing green spaces, biodiversity and clean air.
We’ve worked together on a number of initiatives to raise awareness around the issues and make improvements within the ward of Ardwick, which neighbours the Museum. This included a day of community action, where the A6 road was closed to enable University of Manchester researchers and student volunteers to work with us in measuring pollution levels and planting pollution-combatting roadside hedges.
Ardwick Climate Action has drawn on our botany collection when improving green spaces across the area, using research to inform the species of plants that have been introduced, and we regularly collaborate on events within the Museum to shine a light on this work and provide opportunities for our visitors to get involved.
