Bird Rave
including plumage-making workshop
Flap those wings at a bird-themed rave unlike anything you’ve experienced before.
Whether you’re a Tweetie Pie or a Big Bird, everyone in the family can lose themselves to a classic rave soundtrack, while taking in a captivating performance of ‘dancefloor ornithology’ from the Bird Rave artists.
Before you hit the floor, you’ll also have a chance to make your own wings and plumage in one of our workshops, running throughout the day. The Bird Rave dancers will perform at 2.15pm and 3.30pm, with a rave dance workshop sandwiched in-between at 2.45pm.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) will be joining us too, to tell you all about our feathered friends and run some bird-themed activities during the day.
Bird Rave is a project by live artist Miss High Leg Kick about extraordinary birds and the choreography of nature. It is also a celebration of classic rave music and the ‘freedom to dance’ days of early UK rave culture. Bird Rave stars a diverse group of artists interpreting bird movements in an interactive ‘dancefloor ornithology’ performance to a soundtrack of classic rave music.
The birds you’ll be able to spot on the day include Arctic Tern, Hummingbird, European Nightjar, Hooded Crow, Andean Cock-of-the-rock, Yellow-crested Cockatoo, Raven, Blue-backed Manakin, Penduline Tit and Tufted Titmouse.
Francesca Baglione (Miss High Leg Kick) is an Olivier Award-winning live artist whose work is characterised by humour, unusual approaches to audience engagement, a love of spectacle, and a celebration of the everyday.
