Creative Writing with Clare Ramsaran 

Explore identity, sexuality and community in a series of three writing workshops  

Join local writer Clare Ramsaran, to explore the South Asia Gallery, with a focus on the LGBT+ South Asian history display.  

Over a series of three workshops you will develop your own writing – which could be in the form of a poem, short story or scene, or something else.  You’ll have the chance (if you would like) to share your writing with other participants with an optional sharing opportunity in the South Asia Gallery on Wednesday 21st August.

The series of workshops seeks to facilitate dialogue across different generations of LGBTQ+ South Asian people, and so tickets for this series are separated into tickets for over 30s and tickets for under 30s, to ensure a mix of ages at each session.

Note these workshops will take place in the South Asia Gallery at Manchester Museum, which is open to the public. Optional workshop space is available if attendees would rather work in a more private space. 

Workshop details:
Weekly workshops, 6pm – 7.30pm on:

  • Wednesday 31st July 
  • Wednesday 7th August 
  • Wednesday 14th August 
  • Wednesday 21st August for an optional group sharing
     

More about Clare 

Clare, a queer writer of Indo-Guyanese/Irish heritage, holds a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing. Her writing has been published in Britain (Virago Books) and the US. Her novel manuscript Kala Polari was longlisted for the 2022 SI Leeds Prize, and shortlisted for the 2024/25 Unbound Firsts Prize. https://clareramsaran.blogspot.com/
