Sustainable Forest Transitions
Can’t see the wood for the trees? Creating sustainable forests for people and planet
If we’re serious about tacking the climate crisis, while also reducing poverty, restoring forests around the world is an urgent task.
Forests host most of the biodiversity on land, are the world’s largest carbon stores, and contribute directly to the lives of billions of people, especially in tropical countries. But with the effectiveness of large tree planting and carbon offsetting schemes increasingly being questioned, are we heading in the right direction?
Join us for a late event looking at the state of the world’s forests, including:
- A talk by award winning photographer Kieran Dodds, whose Hierotopia series explores the green ‘church forests’, close to the source of the Blue Nile in Ethiopia.
- A panel debate from leading experts and practitioners in the field on preserving and extending our forests at the scale needed to address the environmental crisis.
- The official launch of the Sustainable Forest Transitions research project with Dr. Johan Oldekop.
