The Big Give: Muso Baby

Make a donation and anything you give will be doubled.

Postnatal depression affects 1 in 10 new mothers and its effects can be debilitating.

Parents can struggle to forge a bond with their babies and suffer feelings of loneliness and inadequacy, which can be compounded by societal pressures, lack of support networks and the physical and emotional demands of parenthood.

Muso Baby aims to address this problem by harnessing the therapeutic power of music, working with small groups in a non-clinical space, enabling meaningful interactions and serving as a lifeline for parents.

A supportive, inclusive space where parents can access therapeutic support is a huge help to many new parents, but it can also be expensive and intimidating. This is where Muso Baby comes in.

Can you support us to deliver a new programme of Muso Baby sessions, helping to change the lives of even more parents and their babies?

We’re aiming to raise £15,000 to fund two full series of Muso Baby sessions, allowing us to support almost 100 new parents.

Make a donation through Big Give’s Christmas Challenge and anything you give will be doubled. You’ve got from 12pm on 3 December until 12pm on 10 December to make a difference.

What is Muso Baby?

Muso Baby provides free access to a six-week programme, ran by a qualified music therapist, where parents can learn new techniques that will help them bond with their babies through music.

Parents also get a chance to develop peer relationships and access support in a safe space, meaning they can develop resilience, and the confidence to seek further support for their own wellbeing.

Our programme is designed specifically for parents who might not normally access support or visit a museum. Its aims are:

  • To combat stigma and social isolation experienced by parents experiencing or at risk of anxiety or postnatal depression. Muso Baby allows parents to meet other parents, share their experiences, and bond over challenges.
  • To provide support for parents experiencing or at risk of anxiety or postnatal depression. We aim to create a safe, welcoming environment where parents can share their experiences, develop resilience, and learn strategies to improve their long-term well-being.
  • To encourage an emotional connection between parent and child through music and play. Muso Baby leverages the power of music therapy to provide an enjoyable and effective intervention for parents.
  • To provide essential support to those who need it most. Muso Baby is completely free to access, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent parents from recieving the support they need. By keeping group sizes small, the program also ensures that each parent recieves personalised attention.
